10 Days to a Healthier Life – Day 2

 Morning Habit

Follow along as I provide day-by-day updates during my ten-day case study.  I’m changing one simple daily habit, and letting readers learn first hand the impact it’s having on my life.

Day 2 – 7:00 am

“I’m happy to be up early.  I’m happy to be up early,”  I chant to myself, as I splash some water on my face.  I’m awake and ready to go, but getting out of bed was a bit tougher today.

I am glad that I did a bit of prep work the night before and things like the coffee maker are ready to go.  Within five minutes I’m starting my activities, and within 10 minutes I’m feeling pretty warmed up.

Today’s Routine

Similarly to yesterday, I started the morning with a ten-minute meditation session. I honestly thought doing meditation in the morning would put me back to sleep, but it actually does the opposite.  The morning “brain fog,” which normally doesn’t disappear until after my first cup of java, is lifted by the end of the session.

Next, I repeat a lot of the same affirmations I wrote out yesterday.  While I never have been huge into self-motivating techniques, I find it energizing to visualize and then write about positive, successful personal and professional outcomes. It’s almost like a personal journal, without the Hello Kitty binder and matching pen.

For the remainder of my time, I plan to focus on developing some content on the Cool Healthy Life website.  No morning exercise today, though I’m sure I’ll be going on a walk/jog once the girls roll out of bed.

Day 2 – 7:00 pm

It’s been a jam-packed family day, but overall I’m feeling pretty good.  Believe it or not, most of the day I actually felt like I had more energy than usual.  I could definitely sense that I was in a very positive state of mind, which tends to wear off on others (and vice versa).

Two days in, and I feel like things are going well, though its about to get very challenging.  After tomorrow (Sunday), I’ll be back on the normal weekday work/school schedule.  This means getting up at 6:00 am for the next five days.  I definitely need to get ready for that adjustment!  I’ll highlight my plan to tackle that during tomorrow’s update.

Talk to you then.
